Erasmus élménybeszámoló

Szántó Dorina vagyok, a Kaposvári Munkácsy Mihály Gimnázium magyar-angol két tanítási nyelvű tagozat tanulója.

Summary of our experience

4th-8th April 2022
We spent Monday and Friday (April 4th and 8th) travelling.

On Tuesday, our first official day started at Liceo Scientifico Mattei. After an excellent breakfast at Hotel Mathis, we headed to the school to get down to some serious work. We were all excited to meet the members of the other nations involved in the project. Arriving at the school after a pleasant ten-minute walk, we gathered in the school’s auditorium with the students of the other participating countries. The Principal of the school, the teachers and the students welcomed us with great hospitality. Then each coutry run their presentations on how they deal with wildfires. Meanwhile every group could vote for the best two presentations. There was a tight competition between the Italians and us but eventually we won. Between the presentations we were entertained by two Italian students singing and playing the guitar. The morning ended with the Italian students showing us around and telling us about their school system.

After a delicious lunch- a treat of the school- in the school canteen, we went sightseeing in Fiorenzuola, guided by a teacher of the school, who told us everything about the history of this little town. As part of the afternoon program, we were welcomed by the mayor. During the afternoon we had fun getting to know all the other Erasmus students. In the evening we had freetime so we decided to go out for a pizza with the other Erasmus groups. When we arrived back to the hotel, we played some board games and cards then around 11 pm everybody went to sleep.

On Wednesday we took a trip to the Museuo della Resistenza, which pays a tribute to all the partizans of the neighbourhood, who fought for freedom in WWII. It was an eye-opening experience. Around noon we travelled to the nearby Castell’ Arquato. Before exploring the cobbled alleys of this magnificent medieval town, we went hiking in the neighbouring woods to explor the flora and fauna of the area. The afternoon in Castell’ Arquato made lasting memories not just because of the beauty of this picturesque place but also because we had the opportunity to learn about each other’s culture and to make friends.

On Thursday we headed to our next destination: Milan. We got up quite early to have enough time to prepare for the trip. After the usual delicious breakfast at Mathis, we went straight to the school of Fiorenzuola d’arda. Our buses left the parking lot at 8:45, and in 1,5 hours we arrived in Milan. We noticed immediatelly that the city is really similar to Budapest, the architecture and the streets looked familiar and home-like to us. The first sight we were able to see was the Banca Commerciale Italiana which was found in 1894 and was once the largest bank of Italy. We also saw the Opera, Teatro alla Scala. Then we walked through a little park and at the end we could go through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. This is a magnificent building which consist of luxury shops like Louis Vuitton, Prada, Chanel, etc. The construction of the Galleria was finished in 1877.

The highlight of our trip was the Milan Cathedral. It was built in a gothic style and took centuries to complete. We were able to go inside and explore it ourselves. In front of the Duomo we could feed pigeons. The next stop was the il Museo Novocento. We visited the exhibition about futurism, cubism, we saw some works of Picasso, and were able to see modern arts too. Then we headed to Castello Sforzesco, where we took a walk and then got on the buses. Our next stop was the Bosco Verticale, two buildings where people pay huge attention to the environment: bushed trees and other plans grow on the balconies of the flats. In this neighbourhood all the other houses try to do the very same thing.

At the end of the day we travelled back to Fiorenzuola, where we could rest, and had our final farewell dinner with the other nationalities in the town.

As participants of this project we learned a lot about the Italian flora and fauna, we also got an insight on how different Europen countries try to raise awarness among their citizens of the problem of forest fires causing a great concern everywhere due to climate change. We also had the opportunity to improve our social and communication skills. However, the greatest benefit for us will definitely be the friendships we have made.
